Key People


There are four key people in our company and we also have a wide network of associates and colleagues whose skills we access on an ad hoc basis according to need.

Kate Malcomess

Kate MalcomessKate Malcomess founded Kate Malcomess Consultancy Ltd in January 2000 as a way of realising her vision of public services that worked to support, empower and enable the public to manage their own lives. Her intense interest in reflective practice as a way of ensuring sound professional practice has been reflected in her career, which has seen her work as a speech and language therapist, clinical audiologist, manager and consultant. Kate’s undergraduate education was completed in 1984 at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She immigrated to the United Kingdom in 1986 and after a couple of years in the voluntary sector work, began working for the NHS. Her clinical experience spanned acute, community and child mental health settings and gained further qualifications in family and group therapy during this time. Kate has an excellent reputation as an effective speaker, facilitator, mentor and coach and is best known for developing the Care Aims Model. This Model has had a significant impact on clinical practice and service delivery across a large number of professions, services and organisations within the NHS and the public sector. She has considerable expertise in the field of outcomes-driven decision-making and reflective practice and has facilitated the redesign of a number of services and organisation-wide systems to support the development of patient-centred, accessible services that are cost-effective.

Pauline Beirne

Pauline BeirnePauline Beirne has worked in the NHS in Scotland for 25 years as a clinician and a manager. She started her speech and language therapy career in 1982 working with adults and children, before specialising in paediatrics with a special interest in specific language disorder. Her clinical career saw her working closely with education staff and has resulted in her developing a wide knowledge base and understanding of collaborative practice and a commitment to high quality training as a vehicle for improving integrated practice. An interest in reflective practice has led to her studying the impact of reflective practice on the decision-making skills of Allied Health Professions. Having headed a large paediatric therapy service for the last 10 years, Pauline has extensive experience of management systems in the NHS and service redesign and review and has worked closely with several services in change management. Pauline has a national reputation as a trainer and facilitator and established her own consultancy business ''Therapy Plus'' in 2002. She has worked as an associate trainer with Kate Malcomess Consultancy Ltd since 2003.

Roz Dixon

Roz DixonRoz Dixon's career has offered her extensive experience in the higher education, health and voluntary sectors. Her first degree is in Nursing and her second in Psychological Counselling. She began her career in the voluntary sector working with families of deaf children and then spend 12 years working in the NHS as a counsellor, psychotherapist, patient advocate and service co-ordinator. She has a particular interest in the question of how multidisciplinary working can best be facilitated and in the question of how services can be made equally accessible to all. In 2001 she completed her PhD in Psychology and since then has been working as a Programme Director for Psychology and Psychotherapy in higher education. She has 17 years experience as a trainer and lecturer. She currently teaches courses in problem solving, decision-making, adult learning and providing psychosocial support to families.

Janet Wilson

Janet Wilson Janet Wilson is a highly skilled consultant and coach with international experience in strategic and line management and in facilitation. She started her career in the leisure industry in South Africa and spent 23 years gaining valuable experience in management both at an operational and strategic level. During her career she has developed a particular expertise in business planning and development, marketing and project management. In 2000 she moved to the United Arab Emirates where she undertook a teaching certificate and subsequently used the skills and knowledge she gained to teach business to school students and adult learners from over 35 different countries. Janet moved to the United Kingdom in January 2003 where she has worked across a number of different sectors as a consultant and executive coach. Janet is an Associate Credentialed Coach with the International Coach Federation, a Master Practitioner in Neuro Linguistic Programming, a qualified NLP Coach, and a trained facilitator. She also has training in Group Analysis. This breadth of expertise and experience enables her to coach individuals wanting to address core life issues as well as corporate clients from within the Public and Business sectors wanting to address leadership, business management and personnel issues in both the Public and Business sectors.
